James Lawley recently joined Lipman and Katz
Attorney Lawley, who was born and raised in Great Britain, is a graduate of Indiana University School of Law. James has been an attorney with the Federal Defender's Program in Montgomery, Alabama for the past three years. James and his family have relocated to central Maine to be near other extended family in Maine. James will focus his practice on civil litigation and criminal defense.

Barbara Goodwin recently joined Lipman and Katz
Goodwin has been in private practice for more than 15 years, and has focused her practice on employment law and civil rights litigation. Her practice at Lipman and Katz will continue to be focused in these areas, and will also include civil litigation, abuse cases, and professional licensing issues. Before joining Lipman and Katz, Goodwin ran her own firm, B.Goodwin Legal, in Harpswell, Maine; prior to founding her firm, she was a partner for several years at a private firm in Portland, Maine. Barbara is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Maine School of Law where she graduated first in her class. Following law school Barbara was a law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Sumner Lipman obtains an award of $3.7 million for a survivor of a knife attack in Waldoboro
On June 5,2012, a Lincoln County Judge awarded Sumner Lipman's client $2 million in general damages, $384,512.00 for medical expenses to date, and $274,560.00 compensation for lost income. The Lipman & Katz client was also awarded $1 million in punitive damages because her attackers acted with malice bringing the total award to nearly $3.7 million.
