Stephen C. Smith Joins Lipman & Katz, P.A.

Stephen C. Smith, Lipman & Katz attorney

Well-known Bangor attorney and founder of Smith Law Offices Stephen Smith will join Augusta law firm Lipman & Katz. The current Smith Law Offices location on Central Street in Bangor will officially become a second location for Lipman & Katz on Sept. 15, 2014.

“Steve will be an excellent addition to the Lipman & Katz team of attorneys. We look forward to incorporating his unique skills and experience into our client services. Also, the new location will be a convenient meeting place for clients in the Bangor area,” said Lipman & Katz partner Melissa Reynolds O’Dea.

Also on Sept. 15, Smith will officially join the Lipman & Katz team of attorneys, bringing with him more than 16 years of experience as a trial lawyer and a strong background in criminal defense, personal injury and family law. Smith handles cases statewide, including Aroostook County, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, and federal and state courts. He has also been a longtime member of the Bar of the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy Tribal Courts.

“I look forward to joining Lipman & Katz. While I have enjoyed my solo practice for many years, associating with such a well-respected firm is very desirable,” said Smith. Smith is a native and current resident of Whitefield, Maine.

Smith served in Desert Storm as an infantryman in the U.S. Army. Following his active service, he joined the Maine Army National Guard as a sniper team leader and later became one of the first direct commissioned officers in the Guard, beginning his career as an officer as an engineer platoon leader. Once he graduated from law school, Smith was direct commissioned as a judge advocate general officer. Following 9/11, he was asked to serve in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan as a military prosecutor. After 21 years of service, Steve retired from the military and continued his legal career in Maine. His many years of legal experience and association with the military has made him a valuable resource for other attorneys in issues pertaining to military divorces and pensions.

“We are very pleased to welcome Steve to our firm,” said Lipman & Katz partner Karen (Lipman) Boston. “His background in family law and criminal defense including federal court criminal cases, homicide and other serious charges, along with his extensive military experience, will bring a valuable perspective to our team.”
